DSU has postponed / canceled the Belize Service-Learning in Education - sad day.....

DSU President’s cabinet has decided the DSU students will not be traveling to Belize due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Neither the US or Belize have issued a no travel advisory. Belize has ZERO confirmed cases of the virus. The Dallas Airport and the total of four American Airlines airplanes are our greatest risk. A very, very, slight risk of a DSU student bringing the virus to a SD school was the primary concern of the administrators. As with any campus, many students will leave for spring break and travel in airplanes and through airports. Any one of those students are just as likely to bring the virus to campus and their field experience sites. I am still going. I bought my ticket and was traveling as a volunteer consultant. DSU did not offer to pay for my airfare or other expenses. I will still post a few pictures and descriptions of my experiences.

Just testing

Hi Everyone!
Another adventure to Belize will be starting soon. There are 9 amazing DSU students set to broaden their horizons by growing professionally and personally through this service-learning opportunity. We will work side-by-side with classroom teachers at Victorious Nazarene Primary School in San Jose Succotz during the morning. Our afternoons will be filled with teaching reading strategies in small groups. We hope to share some reading intervention strategies with our Belizean teaching partners while providing a little extra instructional time for the students. One of our DSU student teachers will be a certified 6-12 math teacher. She will teach small groups utilizing some math interventions such as games and activities incorporating math skills. Keep a lookout for many posts as our trip starts with a 3 day weekend on the island of Caye Caulker in just a couple of days!
